Site E&I Quantity Surveyor – Africa

Key Responsibilities

Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing detailed material take-offs from engineering drawings to calculate material and labour requirements.
  • Monitoring project progress, measuring and valuing variations, agreeing interim payments, and preparing final accounts.
  • Working collaboratively to ensure client requirements are met and project objectives achieved.
  • Conducting monthly valuations of work in progress, forecasting final costs, revenue and updating cashflow forecasts.
  • Calculate material requirements based on stock, material in transit and requirements to complete to report on possible shortages.
  • Providing commercial and contractual advice to project teams, including drafting, and reviewing correspondence.
  • Performing commercial assessments of subcontractor tenders and contracts.
  • Certifying subcontractor monthly valuations and final account settlements.
  • Maintaining effective communication with project team to uphold commercial controls.
  • Producing accurate, timely reports in line with business schedules.
  • Tracking all commercial aspects of the project, including labour, materials, and subcontractor costs to ensure budget compliance.
  • Produce delay reports detailing on Site delays experienced to the Commercial Manager.
  • Supplying relevant information and updates to the Commercial Manager as required.
  • Supporting the Project Manager and/or Site Manager with other tasks as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Commercially astute, numerate, and able to forecast costs and revenue accurately.
  • Self-motivated, energetic team player capable of multitasking and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills, with experience in resource planning and project scheduling.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports on project activities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Solid understanding and practical experience with construction contracts, specifically FIDIC.
  • Professional presentation and demeanour.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Customer-focused, with excellent interpersonal and motivational skills across all levels of an organization.

Education and Formal Training

  • Four-year full-time or five-year part-time B.Sc. (Quantity Surveying) degree.
  • Alternatively, a three-year University of Technology diploma with advancement to a B-Tech degree after an additional year of study.
  • Should the above not be applicable, 10 years experience in Quantity Surveying on Engineering projects

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ quantity surveying experience within the construction industry, particularly in mechanical and electrical contracting environments.
  • Must have experience as Quantity Surveyor on at least one Electrical & Instrumentation project in the Engineering or Mining Sector.
